Huawei presented various new products, such as a special edition of the Watch GT2 or a new colour variant of the FreeBuds 3. The company also introduced a new scale, the Smart Body Fat Scale 2 Pro (yes, “Pro”, for whatever reason), a scale that includes a few extra functions apart the most basic feature of measuring a person’s weight.

Concerning this basic feature, Huawei claims their scale starts measuring at 50 grams, and, boasting about its precision, it can measure the weight change after eating an egg. The company also claims this scale uses an “eight-electrode measurement method” to properly obtain data on the overall body and not just the lower part of this one, contrary to other, more traditional scales available on the market. This way, the scale is able to better understand the distribution of fat and muscle on the users’ body. For this, the scale comes with a handle that can be retracted, making it easier to store the product once finished:

Part of this is possible thanks to Huawei TruFit, an algorithm developed by Huawei and the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, which can detect the body composition and give a more accurate measure of fat and muscle. The information provided by Huawei claims this algorithm makes use of the data obtained, various parameters and “AI technology” to achieve this. The company then proceeds to talk about DEXA, but we’ll just ignore this.

All the data generated by the smart scale can then be sent via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to the smartphone of the user and is processed on the Huawei Health app, which can produce a full analysis and then provide recommendations such as exercises for fat reduction or muscle gain. The data can also be compared to the information of the same age group or gender. Things don’t stop here, as it is possible to have various profiles on the scale for each family member, with a limit of 5 different mobile phone accounts, although each account can hold multiple profiles.
